Elementary School Teacher Arrested At School
MARICOPA -- A second-grade teacher was arrested at Maricopa Elementary School Thursday after allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Dori Keigley, 45, was exhibiting erratic behavior in her classroom around 1:45 Thursday afternoon, prompting school officials to contact the Sheriff's department for assistance.
Keigley "was displaying behavior symptomatic of someone who was under the influence of a controlled stimulant," Sgt. Martin Downs said.
Deputies did not know what substance of which she was under the influence. Stimulants include cocaine, ecstasy, and nicotine products, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
School officials acknowledged that an arrest had been made, but would not comment further, calling the matter a personnel issue.
The school was locked down for about five minutes to ensure Keigley would not make further contact with students. Keigley cooperated fully with authorities once in custody, Downs said.
Keigley was booked on 17 felony counts of child endangerment and a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Bail has been set at $342,500, and an arraignment hearing is scheduled for March 2, deputies said.
