Fire Engulfs Commericial Outbuilding Near Buttonwillow

POSTED: 9:55 pm PST March 2, 2009

Kern County Firefighters worked to put out a commercial outbuilding fire Monday night near Buttonwillow.

The fire broke out shortly after 7pm Monday at Jamesco just east of Buttonwillow on Highway 58.

Crews faced a 15,000 square foot building fully involved when they arrived on scene to the fire, which could be seen from several miles away according to a KCFD news release.

The fire required a second alarm to be called, in all 19 firefighters worked on putting the structure out.

It took crews about two hours to put out the fire, which caused $100,000 in damage to the structure, contents of the building and other nearby buildings.

Crews had to use a water tender to shuttle water from the nearest hydrant, about a mile away.

No injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
