BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An accused animal hoarder and abuser was back in court this morning, but not for long.A judge had her removed from court because she had another vocal outburst.Cynthia Gudger, also known as Anita Gilbert, was in court Wednesday morning for a hearing on whether the judge will court-order her to take medications.
She was found incompetent to stand trial last month, but Gudger yelled at the judge, so he excused her from the courtroom. The judge has banned cameras from the courtroom; he said they incite Gudger's outbursts.Gudger faces 10 counts of animal cruelty after she was found living with dozens of sick, dying and dead animals in her Tehachapi home.Wednesday morning's hearing was postponed so The Department Of Mental Health can have more time to prepare its report on Gudger's treatment plan. But as soon as she was brought in the courtroom, Gudger immediately started talking over Judge Michael Bush, asking thathe be recused and demanded to excuse her attorney. After several attempts to quiet Gudger, Bush excused her from the courtroom for disruptive behavior.Gudger continued to yell as she was removed, and a few minutes later, started screaming the word "help" from behind closed doors.Though the court has found her incompetent to stand trial on those charges, Gudger has insisted she is competent.Gudger is due back in court on April 29 to hear the results of the Department Of Mental Health's report.
