BPD Officer Given Department's Highest Honor
BPD Officer Dennis Eddy received the department's highest honor Wednesday.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Police Officer who lost his left leg during a shootout with a known gang member last year received the department's highest honor Wednesday, the Medal of Valor.On February 9th, 2008, Officer Dennis Eddy and several other officers were involved in a shootout with gang member Leon Anderson.Eddy has received several several honors already from local groups as well as the State Senate.
Wednesday, Chief Bill Rector presented him with the Medal of Valor.Eddy overcame the loss of his leg and returned to duty this past December, though three weeks ago he had to have another surgery to remove bone spurs from this leg.Despite the latest setback and all the rehabilitation, Eddy said he was grateful for the honor."It's amazing to be here today," Eddy said. "The reason why I'm up here are the people I work with including the two that were recognized with me today, it's just fantastic to be here."The two officers who helped save Eddy's life, John Billdt and Eric Littlefield received a Chief's Commendation at Wednesday's ceremony.
