Grass Fire in Hart Flat

UPDATED: 10:30 pm PDT July 1, 2009

Fire officials say a small grass fire burned about four acres Wednesday evening on Clear Creek Road in Hart Flat.

Kern County fire public information officer Sean Collins said the blaze threatened several homes in that area. Approximately 95 firefighters fought the blaze using engines, patrols, hand crews and a water tender.

Crews were supported by a helicopter and retardant-dropping air tanker to get control over that fire. Officials said the fire was fully contained within 90 minutes. No homes were damaged, but one power pole did catch on fire leaving several homes without power. Authorities said the cause of the fire was a garden tractor being used to clear vegetation.
