BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- As the temperature rises many families look forward to taking a trip into the pool, but every year thousands of families take a different trip instead – to the emergency room.North of the River Reaction and Park District offers a “Mommy and Me” swim class.The idea behind the class in to get infants acclimated with the water so if they find themselves there unexpectedly, they will know what to do.
Most infant pool drowning occur about a foot away from the pools edge. This class teaches the child to head for the wall and not to panic in the water.An infant falls that into the water can drown in as little as 20 seconds, experts said.If you want to get your child involved in early swim lessons, check in with North of the River recreation and park District. Also American Kids Gymnastics Center and the Bakersfield Swim Club both have infant swim programs. too.
