BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Now that summer is in full swing, you might be running out of things to keep your kids active before school starts up again in just over a month.Health experts say keep your little ones on the go and away from the TV.Whether it's tumbling around in the gym or performing in front of an audience, staying active during the summer months is the key to getting kids ready to get back to school.
North of the River Recreation and Park District has many activities to keep families busy.Fairy Tail Theater is for kids ages 4 to 6 years old. The week-long program gives children the opportunity to learn about a popular fairy tale, make stage props and on the last day perform to an audience. Organizers said the program is designed to be fun and to inspire creativity.Experts said kids who keep their brains and bodies active during the summer will have a jump-start when school starts in August.Staying mentally and physically active is the goal behind My Gym in northwest Bakersfield. This business serves parents with kids from 3 months to 13 years old.The gym teaches gymnastic skills, social skills and coordination skills. Parents get involved with their children as they interact with others and learn these new skills.
