Anne Arundel County police are investigating what they call a suspicious death after a woman's body was found in a freezer.

Officers were called to a Glen Burnie home at about 6:17 p.m. on Friday, WBAL-TV reported. Upon arrival the officers were directed to a freezer where they found the body of 83-year-old Doris Lea Cooke. The homicide unit was alerted and several family members were interviewed.

Detectives learned that Cooke suffered from various medical conditions and had been bedridden for the last several years. Detectives were also told that Cooke had passed away several weeks ago and that's when family members placed her body into the freezer.

The body was taken to the chief medical examiner's office in Baltimore so an autopsy could be performed, according to authorities.
