- On July 14, 2009, House Democratic leaders introduced the America's Affordable Health Choice Act of 2009. The three panels with jurisdiction over health policy in the House have been working together as one committee to develop a single bill that fulfills President Obama's goals of reducing health care costs, protecting and increasing consumers' choices, and guaranteeing access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

- On August 26, 2009, Kevin McCarthy held a 2 hour town hall meeting at CSUB's Icardo Center, giving the people of Kern County a chance to express their concerns as well as have them answered regarding the HR3200 bill.
- While dozens were called upon to talk, David Brink who was the first person in line at 9:30 a.m. did not get the chance, but said McCarthy answered most of his questions.
- Kern County residents stepped up to the microphone Wednesday night to discuss health care reform with Congressman Kevin McCarthy.
- The public option insurance plan has certainly received much of the attention, but the reform bill encompasses a lot of topics within health care.
