BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An autopsy has revealed that any abuse a woman may have inflicted on her mother did not cause the elderly woman's death.Doris Blair, 74, was found dead in her home Friday and her daughter, Dana Blair, was charged with elder abuse.Sherrif's deputies said those charges were brought after interviews with neighbors, but the autopsy Monday showed that alleged abuse did not cause her mother's death.
Dana Blair has a history of assault charges dating back to 1994.In 2002, she pleaded no contest to the same charges she faces Monday. In that case, she only served 9 days in jail. Monday, ABC 23 spoke to family and friends of Doris Blair who call her Darlene.Jean Hodge, who lives next door, says she constantly witnessed Dana beat Darlene.Henrietta Morales is a relative who adopted Dana's daughter after Child Protective Services took the girl away.Hodge and Morales says everyone knew of the abuse and warned Darlene, but Darlene often avoided reporting the abuse except for two times, each of which were met with no avail. "My grandkids are devastated. Darlene's kids are devastated. Darlene should not have died, this should not have happened," said Morales.
