BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Three people died Tuesday in a fiery crash involving eleven vehicles on southbound Interstate 5 near Bakersfield, Kern County fire officials said.Four big rigs and seven passenger vehicles collided at about 5:18 p.m. north of Highway 119, fire spokesman Sean Collins said. Six of the vehicles caught fire.The CHP said that Joel Flores Dizon, 24, from Laguna Nigel, was in the back seat of one of the vehicles and died at the scene.Dizon's wife and child were trapped in the vehicle.Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to free Dizon's infant who was trapped in a car seat in the crushed vehicle.The child and Dizon's wife were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.Four other people also were taken to hospitals in stable condition.The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Collins said weather may have been a factor. He said it was not raining, but strong winds had kicked up dust and reduced visibility around the time of the crash.
