UPDATED: 11:19 am PDT October 23, 2009

A 16-year-old was arrested late Thursday night after deputies found an unidentified 18-year-old not breathing.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a victim of an assault who had arrived on the 7600 block of Burger Way in Lamont.

The occupants of the residence discovered 18-year-old Paul Bernardo Maytorena's injuries were very serious as he appeared to stop breathing.

The Kern County Sheriff's Department said the occupants began CPR on Maytorena until medical personnel arrived.

Maytorena was transported to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m., according to the KCSD.

Maytorena's injuries have not been determined. An autopsy is pending.

A second victim of a stabbing was also located, the KCSD reported.

He was transported to KMC where he was treated for his injuries, and he was released.

Deputies discovered the original assault occurred in the 10400 block of San Emidio St. in Lamont.

That area was secured and homicide detectives were notified.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 16-year-old Hispanic male on charges of murder, conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators are also looking for two other Hispanic males they believe may be involved in the assault and murder.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 861-3110, or Detective Haislip at 391-7774.
