Infant, 3 Others Killed In Head-On Crash

Three adults and an infant were killed Friday afternoon when two cars crashed head-on.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a head-on car crash closed down Highway 46 after an infant and three adults were killed.

According to the CHP, the crash happened around noon Friday when a Chevy Cavalier hit a Toyota Prius on highway 46 just east of highway 33.

The CHP said that the driver of the Cavalier was trying to pass a big rig when the Prius was coming in the opposite direction.

The two cars hit head-on, killing a total of four people.

The CHP said that Sirlene Ann Soto, 62, Walter Earl Elliott, 84, Jose Alberto Sanchez, 25, and Nathaniel Sanchez, 1, only died at the scene. Only 1 survived the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she is listed with major injuries.

CHP reported that the highway was reopened around 6 p.m.

The CHP said that the infant was in a car seat.
