BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Police Department held a DUI and driver's license checkpoint Saturday night in Central Bakersfield.The checkpoint was held near Bakersfield High School on California Avenue from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.More than 1,700 vehicles passed through with nearly 1,200 screened by officers.
58 vehicles were impounded.45 unlicensed drivers were cited.10 drivers were cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license.11 motorists performed field sobriety tests where two people were arrested and charged with DUI and one of those drivers had an outstanding warrant.The checkpoint was funded through a grant with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
