BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A woman facing elder abuse charges after her mother was found dead finalized a plea deal Thursday morning that sentences her to three years probation with one year to be served in jail.Originally In September, Dana Blair pleaded not guilty to felony charges of elder abuse. In 2002, she pleaded no contest to the same charges.Doris Blair, 74, was found dead in her home in September, and her daughter, Dana, was charged with elder abuse.
A neighbor told deputies that they saw Dana pushing Doris around, but preliminary autopsy results said physical abuse was not a contributing factor to Doris' death.Dana has a history of assault charges dating back to 1994.Jean Hodge, who lived next door, said she constantly witnessed Dana beating Doris.Henrietta Morales is a relative who adopted Dana's daughter after Child Protective Services took the girl away.Hodge and Morales said everyone knew of the abuse and warned Doris, but Doris often avoided reporting the abuse except for two times, each of which were met with no avail. "My grandkids are devastated. Doris' kids are devastated. Doris should not have died; this should not have happened," said Morales.
