Police: Man Accused Of Killing 6-Month-Old Girl
23-Year-Old Arrested On Murder Charges

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bakersfield police are investigating the killing of a 6-month-old girl.Around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Bakersfield police were dispatched to a report of an injured infant being treated at Mercy Southwest.Ayonna Thompson suffered an injury to her head and died at 5:51 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department said.
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and Thompson's death was ruled a homicide.An investigation revealed that Thompson's mother’s boyfriend, Roman Ray Brand, 23, intentionally caused the injury, police said.Brand was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday and booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of murder.
