Lawrence's Christmas Tree Farm Opens For Business

POSTED: 4:00 pm PST November 27, 2009
UPDATED: 4:08 pm PST November 30, 2009

Lawrence’s Tree Farm has become apart of many families day after Thanksgiving traditions.

Families from all over come to the farm to pick out their perfect tree.

Corrie Jeffries came from Bakersfield with her family, she said, “We’re out here to get a Christmas tree, we come out here the day after Thanksgiving every year, and we’ve done this for the last nine years."

The family who runs the farm said they think so many people come to their farm for the experience of picking out a tree and cutting it down themselves.

Carol Gates said, “It’s the whole experience. It’s a family tradition kind of thing. People start doing it and they don’t stop. They love to bring everyone out and sometimes it’s snowing and you know, they’ll track through the snow and find a tree.”

And while it does take a lot of work to cut down the trees, most said cutting down the tree isn’t the hardest part, instead finding that perfect tree.

Jackie Ruckhaber has been coming to Lawrence's Tree Farm for over two decades, she said, “The most work is finding the perfect tree. I walked all the way down that way, all the way up. I usually get it at that end, but this year I had to find it at this end. It’s the picking of it. It has to be the perfect tree, and it always is.”

And while some people have a fresh cut Christmas tree every year, for Donna Jeffries, it’s her first year.

She said, "The whole family hates the gorgeous fake Christmas trees I pull out every year. I set them up, I know exactly what goes on them, I know how I want them to look, and it’s never a problem, but this year I have caved in to extreme pressure from all the family and I am going with a fresh tree.”

So if you too are looking for a fresh Christmas tree you can cut down yourself, Lawrence’s tree farm is open every weekend until Christmas.

They are located at 19669 Banducci Road in Tehachapi.
