SOUTH KERN COUNTY, Calif. -- Interstate 5 is now open following a hard closure at the Grapevine this morning due to snow and ice.The pass was closed by the CHP & CalTrans about 5:45 a.m. after a big rig jackknifed near Gorman School Road and several cars spun out. The CHP then began escorting traffic along the Grapevine about 8 a.m., and officially reopened the interstate at 9:20 a.m.Though the interstate is open, the CHP is reporting a wind advisory on the pass.
The CHP is also reporting there is snow and ice just west of the I-5 on Highways 166 and 33, and chains are required in those areas at this time.Highways 58 & 178 remained open this morning as an alternative route to Southern California.
