Mother, Daughter Take Plea Deal In Internet Prostitution Case
TAFT, Calif. -- The Frazier Park women accused of offering sexual favors in addition to their masseuse services on the Internet accepted a plea deal that allows them to avoid a jail sentence.
Katherine Silvers and her daughter Sarah Sunshine finally appeared in a Taft courtroom Tuesday morning, roughly three-and-a-half months after being arrested in an undercover prostitution sting at their home in Cuddy Creek last September.
Silvers and Sunshine were accused of posting messages on Craigslist and Backpage.com offering sexual favors in addition to massage services for several months before Sheriff's deputies ran an undercover operation.
As a result of the plea deal negotiated by David Ingrum, the deputy district attorney, and John Tyre, the women's attorney, Judge Craig Phillips sentenced the women to two years of probation and a fine of $381 each.
Silvers and Sunshine entered no contest pleas to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, but as part of the deal, did not admit to an act of prostitution, Tyre said.
About a month after the Frazier Park arrest, Silvers was arrested again in Westbury, New York, where she was caught in another undercover operation by the Nassau County Police Department. In that case, Silvers pled guilty and served a brief jail sentence.
The resolution of that case will not have an impact on the probation sentence issued Tuesday, Tyre said.
