Bakersfield Local Dies Following High-Speed Chase

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A Fresno County sheriff's deputy who grew up in Bakersfield is dead following a high-speed chase.
Deputy Joshua Lancaster was driving an unmarked sheriff's car when he was broadsided by a car being chased by Sanger police officers Wednesday night.
Lancaster was not involved in the pursuit.
Sanger police officers were chasing a man suspected of assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping a 17-year-old girl who was a passenger in his car.
The pursued car was going more than 90 miles per hour when it struck Lancaster's car, killing Lancaster and the girl in the suspect's car.
Sheriff chaplains have been brought in to help deputies cope with the loss of their colleague.
Lancaster is the third Fresno deputy killed in two years.
The man police were chasing is in serious condition at University Medical Center in Fresno.
Authorities said he will face murder charges.
