BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man convicted of vehicular manslaughter appeared in court Tuesday morning -- as the main suspect in a cold case involving murder and several sexual assaults.Michael Brown, 34, was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2003 after hitting a pedestrian while under the influence and dumping the body at the Wienerschnitzel on Union Avenue.Read Story

Prosecutors then charged Brown with 20 felony counts related to the rape and murder of 39-year-old Ruby Lee Jackson-Meriweather in 2000 as well as four sexual assaults after DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.On Tuesday, Brown’s case was postponed until May so investigators can collect more DNA evidence.The victim's family was in the courtroom Tuesday and said they are one step closer to getting justice now that police have a suspect.As for the sexual assault charges, four women allege he attacked them after he was released from prison in 2007 for the involuntary manslaughter conviction.Brown pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
