BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The man accused of hog-tying a pit bull and leaving it for dead in the south county appeared in court Friday morning.That pit bull -- who has been named England after officer Kristen England found him -- has been sent to rescue thanks to the help of actress Katherine Heigl.Related Stories

James Worley, 52, is accused of tying the animal to a tree on Adobe Road between Teale and Sandrini roads.The responding Animal Control officer said they were horrified to find a dog in a muddy field with its mouth and legs bound. The animal was unable to move and suffered injuries due to the abuse, they said.Worley pleaded not guilty in court Friday.It is unknown whether Worley was the dog's owner--but officials said the dog was in his care.
