UPDATED: 5:41 pm PDT August 27, 2010

The Bakersfield Police Department is searching for a sex offender who they said cut off his GPS ankle monitoring device.

Around 11 p.m. on Thursday, police said recently released parolee and registered sex offender Carlos Hermosillo disabled his GPS tracking ankle monitor and his whereabouts are unknown.

Hermosillo is a 27-year-old Hispanic standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds.

According to photos ABC23 obtained from the BPD, Hermosillo has tattoos on his chest and arms.

Hermosillo was released from prison earlier this week and his last known location was the Vagabond Inn at Olive Drive and Freeway 99.

Hermosillo was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
