The McFarland Police Department has arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 19-year-old woman.

MPD officers went to the 200 block of Brentwood Court around 11:45 p.m. Sunday on reports of shots heard in the area. When officers arrived, they said they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot injury to her head.

The woman was transported and admitted at Delano Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, which were non-life-threatening.

Police said the first vehicle was described as a 2008 to 2010 white Ford F-150 pickup with an extra cab, black bumpers and stock rims.

The second vehicle was described as a 1986 to 1989 blue, four-door Honda Accord with front headlights that flip upwards.

On Tuesday, MPD officers arrested Gerardo Escobedo, for his involvement in the shooting. He was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an inhabited vehicle.

During a follow-up investigation, officers learned Escobedo had actually been involved in the incident and had a verbal altercation with the occupants of the Ford F-150 pick-up. That altercation later escalated to gun fire.

Escobedo and the occupants of the Ford F-150 pickup were involved in two different gun battles, in which resulted in the uninvolved woman getting shot in the head from a stray bullet.

The investigation is on-going; Officers are asking anyone with information related to the incident to call the MPD and ask for Sergeant Greg Herrington or Senior Officer Mike Weber, at 661-792-2121.
