BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Scary moments for tenants of an apartment complex in the Rosedale area Saturday evening after a fire broke out in the attic. That fire broke out around 6 p.m. Saturday in a three apartment unit of the apartment complex at Rosedale Highway just west of Allen Road. The fire was burning in the common attic of the three units, but Kern County and Bakersfield fire crews were able to limit the fire to where it started by ventilating the roof.
Two of the three units will be unlivable for the night, though it's unclear if they were actually occupied. If they were occupied, Kern County Fire and the American Red Cross will work with the tenants to find some place to stay for the night. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no estimate as of yet on how much damage was caused. The fire was a second alarm fire due to the heat Saturday, as fire officials didn't want crews to suffer heat related injuries.
