BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- It is going to be at least a month before the gigantic sinkhole on 19th and Oak streets is repaired, KERO reported.

Crews have been working around the clock to fix a sinkhole that caved in Oct. 30. Three cars fell into the sinkhole when it caved in.

The sinkhole is much bigger than it was Thursday, but it is on its way to becoming much safer, KERO reported.

Florn Core, the Bakersfield Water Resources director, said, "The construction is 10 to 15 percent complete right now."

The city and Granite Construction have crews out working night and day, but it could be a month before things get back to normal.

The sinkhole is affecting more than traffic -- it's affecting businesses, as well.

Mark Waybrigh from Jim Burke Ford said the sinkhole has prompted sales to sink.

"It is having an impact at our service department, and on the sales floor. Later today, we hope to have a sign directing people in off of 21st Street," Waybrigh told KERO.

Two of the trucks that fell into the sinkhole were for sale on the lot. In the spirit of capitalism and jest, the advertising department at Jim Burke Ford is planning a special sales event around the sinkhole.
