Bakersfield City School District Meets Testing Goals
The Bakersfield City School District has met its goal for the second year in a row when it comes to scores on state and federal testing.
Districtwide, students met the state adequate yearly progress in math and English.
Some kids didn't make the grade, including English as a second language and special education students.
The district's goal was to have 13.5 percent of students proficient in English and 16 percent proficient in math this year, and then gradually increase to 100 percent proficiency in both areas by 2014.
There was also a test-score gap between African-American, Hispanic, and white students.
The real test may come with next year's scores, when the bar will be raised by about 10 percent.
