Death List Surfaces At Elementary School
Fifth-Grade Student Suspended For Bringing List To School
BAKERSFIELD-- -- A steady stream of parents showed up at Nichols Elementary School Friday to pick up their children after word spread around campus that a fifth-grade girl had passed around a death list.
Bakersfield police say the 10-year-old girl made the death list of 10 fellow students, one boy and nine girls, all in the fifth grade.
Investigators believe the girl gave the list to one of the students being targeted, who in turn passed it to others on the list.
One of the kids told his or her parents, who then notified school officials.
The student who made the list was detained by police and released to school officials.
She has been suspended for five days.
While most parents picked up their children Friday after hearing of the list, others told 23 News they felt safe with their kids in school.
The case will be forwarded to juvenile detectives for further investigation.
