Firefighter Injured In South Bakersfield Blaze
BAKERSFIELD -- A south Bakersfield blaze injured a firefighter and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage Tuesday night.
The fire started at about 7:30 p.m. at 6001 Via Lucca, where the flames quickly spread through the house. Fire officials said the blaze began after dust and lint caught fire in a clothes dryer. Witnesses said the fire set off what appeared to be explosions within the home. "When I came outside, I just seen a little bit of fire coming up, and after that, I just started to hear real loud booms," said eyewitness Isaac Chatman.
More than 30 city and county firefighters were called in to help. One of them suffered a moderate ankle injury while deploying hose lines during the initial fire attack. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.
Firefighters estimated the damage at $150,000.
