Dangerous Choking Game Claims Life Of Young Girl
BEAR VALLEY SPRINGS -- The recent death of a Bear Valley Girl is bringing attention to a "game" some kids are playing with deadly consequences.
Authorities say what happened to an 11 year old Bear Valley girl is being played by kids in the area and all over the country.
Police say the game took the life of Alyx Detjen last week when she was found dead in her home by her mother Carolyn. Authorities say the death of Alyx puts a face on a deadly game that has been going on for decades, but isn't known by many parents.
Authorities say the game is simple. Kids who do it cut off blood flow to their heads until they become dizzy and light headed.
Police say in most cases, the kids have someone there to stop them before the game goes too far, but authorities say Alyx was playing this game by herself, and died when it went too far.
Bear Mountain Police are urging parents to talk to their kids about this game so they can explain the tragic consequences of choking yourself or other children.
