BAKERSFIELD -- The City of Bakersfield has a new street named for one of it's most famous sons.
Bakersfield's Planning Commission is re-naming a small stretch of roadway from Truxtun Avenue to the Amtrak Station "Merle Haggard Way."
The new name replaced S Street.
The "Okie from Muskogee" grew up in Oildale and is credited as one of the early pioneers of the Bakersfield Sound, along with Buck Owens.
