OILDALE -- Kern County officials are creating a nine-member committee to recommend a street in Oildale to name after country music singer Merle Haggard.
The singer grew up in Oildale and was later part of making the Bakersfield Sound popular with Buck Owens.
County officials scrapped plans to name a stretch of road in Bakersfield after Haggard after Oildale residents objected.
