UPDATED: 6:41 pm PDT July 4, 2006

Fireworks could pose a health risk for residents with respiratory problems. Air officials said thousands of fireworks will create a spike in the air pollution at sundown.

They're also warning people who are sensitive to smoke and particulate pollution, especially the elderly and small children, to stay indoors.

Smoke from fireworks can create serious health problems, and it can aggravate lung disease and respiratory infections.
