Dogs are everyone's best friend. They drool, shed, but the sloppy kisses are worth the hard work. Monday is celebrated August 26 every year.
Send your dog photos to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be put in a slideshow and may be on the air today. View the slideshow here: http://bit.ly/NatDogDaySlideshow
Nation Dog Day celebrates family dogs that are loved, selflessly love, and helps the public recognize how many pets need homes.

"Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage," said a National Dog Day statement on Facebook.
The day was designated in 2004.
National Dog Day organizers encourage all to donate $5 to their local shelter for the occasion.
