A bear on the loose near an elementary school had animal control officials scrambling to take control of the animal.

The bear was seen roaming near Ramon Garza Elementary.

A graduation ceremony was taking place on campus.

The bear was noticed by a teacher, who alerted officials.

The bear ran into the Edison Village Apartments off of Pioneer Drive.

  • Officers were able to corner the 125-pound bear and utilized a Taser to subdue it.

    Kern County Animal Control took possession of the bear and the Department of Fish and Game came and secured the bear.

    Authorities believe the bear might have followed the Kern River into town looking for water.

    The bear has since been released back into the wild.
