Boulder police back off fighting words ordinance

BOULDER, Colo. - Boulder police are backing off after a municipal judge ruled the city's "fighting words" ordinance unconstitutional.

Chief Mark Beckner says the department is waiting for an appeals court ruling before aggressively enforcing the law. The city has not decided whether to appeal the ruling.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, the law bars people from insulting, taunting or challenging another person if it would likely provoke a disorderly response.
