Officer-involved shooting in North Bakersfield

Suspect in alleged burglary killed by BPD officers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One man is dead this morning following an officer-involved shooting in North Bakersfield.

He is now identified as 29-year-old Jason Lee Alderman.

According to Bakersfield Police Sgt. Joe Grubbs, at about 11:20 p.m.. on Saturday night, two officers in the same patrol car were searching for another suspect for an unrelated crime in the area of Olive Drive and Roberts Lane.

That's when the officers noticed a man breaking into the Subway at 1215 Olive Drive.

The officers approached the man and that's when shots were fired by officers. It is unknown at this time if the man was armed or what exactly provoked gunfire.

He was taken to a local area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The business was closed at the time and no other persons or officers were injured.

Bakersfield Police strongly believe the man was trying to rob the Subway location.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs said the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of involved officers have not been released.

An examination will be scheduled this week to determine cause and manner of death.
