Car fleeing San Jose police crashes into homes

The driver was booked into Juvenile Hall

A South San Jose home has been destroyed and another extensively damaged by a ruptured gas line that exploded when a teenager fleeing police in a stolen car crashed into the dwellings.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that no one was seriously hurt even though the houses were occupied at the time of crash late Friday night.

San Jose Police Officer Albert Morales says the chase started when a patrol car tried pulling over the vehicle because its headlights were off. Morales says it spun out of control and into the homes while making a turn.

The driver was booked into Juvenile Hall and not identified because of his age.

Three underage passengers were released to the custody of parents or guardians.
