The 20th Congressional District that covers part of Kern County still remains too close to call given the number of outstanding provisional and absentee ballots in Kern, Kings and Fresno Counties.Republican challenger Andy Vidak leads incumbent Democrat Jim Costa by 1,823 votes. That's a 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent for the newcomer Vidak. The fact that this race is tight is not a surprise to anyone involved in either campaign as both sides were expecting a close vote given the mood of the country and the district as well as all the outside groups pouring money into the race.Only about 62,000 votes have been counted thus far as there are thousands of provisional and absentee ballots that could apply to the 20th. Due to the undecided nature of the race neither side was available for on-camera comment on Wednesday.Costa did release a statement saying, "the results of the election continue to come in. There are thousands of votes to be counted. Every vote must be accounted for and we will continue to follow the returns. Obviously, we're still hoping for the best."
