Defense Attorney Stanley Simrin Has Died

A prominent local defense attorney who played a key role in numerous high profile cases passed away this morning.

Officials at Temple Beth El said Stan Simrin died this morning at 7 a.m.

Simrin was a defense attorney for several defendants in the 1980s child molestation cases, and represented Jeffrey Modal when his conviction was overturned in 1999.

His most recent case was that of Jeff Scheidemantel, a Shafter High school teacher accused of possessing the ingredients to make meth.

Simrin suffered a stroke two months ago.
