Father, Son Arrested On Murder Charges

A father and son were arrested Thursday morning wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a man outside a bar.Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Department said that about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, they were sent to the Stellas Sandtrap Lounge at 3133 Niles St. regarding a man who was found with a gunshot wound.Deputies said they found 34-year-old Roman Fernandez suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso in the parking lot of the bar.

Fernandez was taken to Kern Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.Homicide detectives began their investigation and have since developed information on who the suspects were that committed the homicide.Mark Mendoza Sr., 41, was arrested early Thursday morning in the 3300 block of Mesa Drive. Deputies said a stolen gun as well as other evidence was also located at his home.Mendoza's son, Mark Mendoza Jr., was arrested early Thursday morning in the 400 block of Buena Vista Boulevard, in South Bakersfield. A vehicle believed to be used by the suspects during the homicide was also seized, deputies said.Both Mark Mendoza Jr. and Mark Mendoza Sr. were arrested on charges of murder; conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.They were both booked into the Kern County Central Receiving Facility.The investigation is continuing.
