Honorary captains for the game will be retired Stockdale High School Athletic Director Don Ward and former Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College standout football player Isaac McClanahan. Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) Christine Lizardi Frazier and U.S. Army General Michael X. Garrett will make the ceremonial coin flip to decide which team will receive the opening kickoff.
The Arena Bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Army, KCSOS Project 180, ESPN 1230, P.K.P. Promotions and KERO TV23. Apart from the football game, players will be taking part in mentoring Project 180 at-risk students who are enrolled in the Reach 4 Greatness after school program.
Project 180s goal in sponsoring the event is to engage the selected all-star players in promoting community service and mentoring, said Project 180 Prevention Specialist Kevin Keyes. The game is the entertaining by product of their community involvement.
