High-Speed Chase Ends In Kern County

Possibly Suicidal Man Shot With Bean Bag

The California Highway Patrol put an end to a dangerous high-speed chase Thursday night between officers and a possibly suicidal suspect.

The chase began in Los Angeles County and made its way over the grapevine at speeds in excess of 130 mph.

Officers used spike strips to bring the car to a halt near Houghton Road. The man, however, refused to give up.

Police shot the man with a nonlethal bean bag and took him into custody.

The CHP. said the man called his girlfriend and told her he planned to slam into the back of a tanker truck.

Officers said he was possibly under the influence of alcohol.
