A hydrogen sulfide leak at an oil refinery prompted evacuations along Rosedale Highway.

Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, sensors triggered alarms of a leak at the Alon Refinery that is just east of Fruitvale Avenue on Rosedale Highway.

23ABC learned that 30 employees were evacuated from the refinery.

Hazmat crews as well as fire crews with the Kern County Fire Department were at the refinery making sure that the leak didn't threaten any nearby facilities.

Brandon Smith with the KCFD said to close doors and windows if you can smell a rotten egg smell.

Also, you should turn off your air conditioning to keep the smell from entering your home or business.

Smith said they believe to have found the leak, but are doing sweeps of the refinery to make sure there are no other possible leaks.

The Alon Refinery was previously known as Big West until Alon USA bought the facility in June of 2010.
