iPhone unveiling event scheduled for September 10; Will Apple announce the 5S and 5C?

Apple says event will "brighten everyone's day"

Apple has officially invited reporters to an iPhone unveiling at its campus in Cupertino, Calif. on Sept. 10.

The colorful, bubbly invitation reads, "This should brighten everyone's day."

ABC News has speculated the colorful dots on the invitation are meant to evoke thoughts about the new iOS 7 operating system and perhaps also the colorful versions of the rumored 5C iPhone model.

The iPhone5C model will reportedly be a low-cost version of the iPhone. Additionally, leaked images have indicated the plastic phone will be available in several colors, like blue, green, white and yellow.

The iPhone5S model will succeed the current iPhone5. Rumors indicate it will have a similar design but add a fingerprint sensor for security and improve some of the internal components. It could also add a gold-colored body to the line.

The invitations for the long rumored Sept. 10 launch event follows Apple's announcement last Friday that it would begin allowing customers to trade in their old phones. The company says it will give customers credit for functioning older models. The credit can be used toward the purchase of a new iPhone, which will be activated in the store.
