DELANO, Calif. - A fire that caused a senior center to burn to the ground was deemed as accidental, according to officials.

On May 30, the Kern County Fire Department went to an early morning second-alarm fire at the Delano Senior Center in the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue.
Crews said they were faced with heavy fire and smoke conditions, ultimately forcing firefighters to battle the fire defensively from the outside of the building due to roof collapse.
Numerous resources were called out to the fire from many neighboring cities; bringing a total of 32 firefighters to the scene.
The Incident Commander requested the Kern County Fire Department Investigations Unit go to the scene for assistance determining a cause. Fire Investigators have determined that the fire was accidental in nature, and a more specific cause in still being determined.
