Local MLS player returns to Bakersfield for visit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Liberty High School grad and Bakersfield native is visiting family in town after becoming a Major League Soccer player.

25-year-old Quincy Amarikwa was a member of the Bakersfield Alliance club soccer team and played soccer at UC Davis.

Amarikwa led his team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2008.

During his collegiate years, Amarikwa also played with Bakersfield Brigade in the USL Premier Development League.

Amarikwa was drafted in the third round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes. After 25 games, he was traded to the Colorado Rapids in 2010.

Amarikwa was waived by Colorado in June of 2012, when he then went to the New York Red Bulls.  On July 21, 2012 New York traded him to Toronto FC for a conditional draft pick.
