NEWBERRY SPRINGS -

A 13-year-old Bakersfield boy died in a car crash in Newberry Springs on Sunday, police said.

On March 10, at about 4:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol went to Interstate 15, near Alvord Mountain Road, regarding a multi vehicle traffic collision.

Officers said they found that a Toyota Camry had been southbound on Interstate 15 in stop and go traffic and had come to a complete stop.

A Dodge Ram pickup truck was also southbound on Interstate 15,  and police said the driver failed to see that traffic had stopped and then rear-ended the Toyota.

The Toyota propelled forward colliding with another vehicle before coming to rest into the open desert, according to officials.

At about 4:45 p.m., paramedics from Desert Ambulance pronounced Jared Fair, a 13 year-old resident of Bakersfield, a passenger in the Toyota, dead.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
