BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - 17 people were arrested for prostitution in Bakersfield on Thursday.

On Jan. 17, officers conducted a prostitution suppression operation, referred to as a 'John Sting', on Union Avenue.

According to officials, 17 arrests were made for solicitation of prostitution.  One of the arrestees was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, and a parole violation.

The sting was conducted by members of the Bakersfield Police Department, Kern County Sheriff's Department Joint Vice Task Force, and California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
