2 men arrested on drug charges

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
On Wednesday, deputies from the Kern Narcotics Enforcement Team, with assistance from the Sheriff’s Major Violators Unit conducted an investigation into the sales of Heroin in the Bakersfield area.
At 1 p.m., a search warrant was served on a previously impounded vehicle.
Deputies said they found three ounces of heroin, which was found in a hidden compartment of the vehicle, along with $700 in US Currency.
At 6 p.m., said they made a stop on the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Mount Vernon Avenue and Highway 58.
A search was conducted with the assistance of a Sheriff’s K9 and the dog found three more ounces of heroin, in a similar hidden compartment found in the vehicle, deputies said.
Arrested, as a result of the investigation, was 28-year-old Bakersfield resident Raul Mata Ortiz.
Ortiz was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance, conspiracy, false identification to a peace officer, and possession of false documents.
Also arrested was 30-year-old Bakersfield resident Mario Martinez.
Martinez was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance, and driving a vehicle without a license plate lamp.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is approximately $6,000.
